Project Success is a unique teen pregnancy prevention and HIV/AIDS risk reduction program that promotes positive youth development and healthy lifestyle choices for students. Project Success addresses a variety of topics and subject matter which includes: HIV/AIDS prevention, self responsibility, sexual responsibility, family communication, and developing positive decision-making skills. To address this population of students, we have chosen multiple evidence-based curriculum: “Becoming A Responsible Teenager” (BART) & Be Proud, Be Responsible. The curriculum’s has five core developmental areas for enrolled youth:
- Assist youth change risky behaviors which place them at risk for HIV, STIs and pregnancy
- Abstinence/Delay having sex for those who are sexually inexperienced
- Educate them how to use a condom properly
- Reduces the chances of youth having unprotected sex
- Helps youth take pride in making responsible decisions
CYEP partners with the Alexandria Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy (ACAP), The City of Alexandria and the Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Service. Collaboratively, we work with young people, their families, and the community to secure brighter futures by offering culturally competent, evidence based curriculum.
Additionally, – we partner with Yo-Kids to teach the youth mindfulness and meditation by introducing them to yoga and the Virginia Cooperative Extension, who teaches nutrition education (Teen Cuisine) to foster healthy lifestyles and conduct financial literacy seminars so that youth know the importance of budgeting and making smart financial decisions early in life.
